All praise be to Allah.

How often we grive over our loss and instead of being grateful for whatever we still have, we lose the sense of gratitude and start complaining.

Complains will only cause us harm. It will make us ungrateful and thus sinful. Whereas our gratitude to Allah will only increase us in our blessings and hence Iman.

Its not easy to be thankful when one has suffered a terrible loss. Its easy to say than done. This is the test of faith that Allah puts his slave into.

Imagine losing more than what is lost! Imagine how Allah still have blessed you despite the hardship? See how you still are living and have been given more chance to seek repentance? How many of those who are under the soil would wish to be given just one more day to ask Allah of his forgiveness? How many of them would want to do everything according to Islam? How many would want to be Muslims?

Always remember Allah takes to give better! Maybe not in this world but surely in hereafter. There is no loss that wont be recompensted with good, if one believes it to be, if one believes in Allah.

To elaborate this, as an example, we take one of the greatest event in the life of umm ul Mumineen-umm Salama(RadiAllahu anha)

She was the widow and her husband had died in the Battle of badr. She was sad and alone. She had children to support and it was the difficult time in her life.

She used to repeat the dua that prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had taught them once. She would continually seek Allahs forgiveness and blessings and Allah rewarded her with the best.

“Umm Salamah [Radhi yAllaahu 'anhaa] reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah :saw: saying, “When a person suffers from a calamity and utters:

`Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji`un. Allahumma ujurni fi musibati, wakhluf li khairan minha

(We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah! Compensate me in my affliction, recompense my loss and give me something better in exchange for it), then Allah

surely compensates him with reward and better substitute.” Umm Salamah [radhi yAllaahu 'anhaa] said: When Abu Salamah [Radhi-yallaahu 'anhu] died, I repeated the same supplication as the Messenger of Allah :saw: had commanded me (to do), so Allah bestowed upon me a better substitute than him.

Do you know who that substitute was? It was RasoolAllah (sallalahualaihiwasalam) himself.

Had there been any other better way to recompensate a believer?

Her husband was taken away from her. He was a sahabi, a great believer. But her dua and faith in Allah azawajal made her Mother of all Believers. She was married to Prophet (peace be upon him). Thus Allah gave her better than what she had.

It is a lesson for all Muslims, that whenever a calamity befall him, he must repeat the dua taught by Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) and never lose hope. Always be grateful and hopeful. Allah will surely change the grief into joy. Allah never returns a believer empty handed.

Whatever we get is the best for us and we must be thankful for it.

Trust in his plans.

It is an important dua we should all memorize and remember in times of any difficulty or calamity be it financial, death, health etc

And Allah knows best.
