Praise be to Allaah.

People tend to enjoy such books and there is no basis of any of what is written in them as in reality.

If a story or a book contains lies such as Darwin's theory and things that contradict Islam then it must be avoided. A Muslim must avoid reading such stuff that will put his faith in doubt. No one can claim that he will remain uninfluenced by any such stuff.

A Muslim must keep himself busy with something that will be of use to him, such as learning good things or doing righteous deeds or reading true stories and historical accounts and so on.

Science fiction involves a lot of kufr and things that are not real. They put the matters of life and death in the hands of some researchers or supernatural being, they make traveling to future or past possible and also makes creatures that dont exist.

All of this is impossible, and no one knows the unseen except for Allaah. Some of these novels and movies also include clear contradictions of historical facts that are mentioned in the Qur’aan and Sunnah, such as man’s creation and his life on earth.

When a person indulges in reading these books or watch them as moviss, it shakes his belief and may even cause him to question his religion and its message as not all have strong Iman and some people do have a tendency to deviate from the right path. Moreover, shayateen are always with the human being, they make sure that a person questions his beliefs and get influenced negatively from such things.

Some people claim that this is just entertainment and a way of passing time, but entertainment is not permitted if it is haraam, and the Muslim’s time is too precious to be wasted on such trivial things. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “One of the signs of a person being properly committed to Islam is that he leaves alone that which does not concern him.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 2239, and others. Also in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 5911).

And Allaah knows best.
